AlUla Development Company, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, has unveiled the design concept for its upcoming hotel project, Numaj. Developed in partnership with Marriott International, the hotel will join the Autograph Collection Hotels portfolio and is scheduled to open in 2027.
Located in AlUla, Numaj will offer 250 guest rooms and has been designed by the architecture firm GioForma, known for its work on the Maraya Concert Hall. The concept for the hotel takes inspiration from the Nu Ursae Majoris star system, which holds historical relevance as a navigation reference for ancient travellers in the AlUla region. The name also translates in Arabic to “the first leap,” reflecting a step forward in the region’s hospitality development.
The design incorporates materials and craftsmanship native to the region. Elements such as engraved mushrabia patterns, open-air layouts, and locally sourced stonework are intended to reflect the surrounding desert landscape. The hotel will include a selection of dining options, wellness and fitness facilities, retail areas, and a conference centre. A curated rock collection will be displayed in the lobby, highlighting the geological character of the area.
Numaj was announced during the Arabian Travel Market 2025 held in Dubai. The project aims to support both leisure and business travel to AlUla, contributing to the broader goals of sustainable tourism and regional development.
