Athletes from 90+ Countries Compete Across 38 Sports at Open Masters Games in Abu Dhabi

Events are being held at more than 20 venues across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, including Zayed Sports City, Hudayriyat Island, and the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub.

The Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 are currently underway, welcoming more than 25,000 athletes from over 90 countries. Running until 15 February 2026, the multi-sport event promotes participation, healthy lifestyles, and international engagement across age groups.

The Games feature competition across 38 sports, including athletics, swimming, tennis, jiu-jitsu, and beach wrestling. Events are being held at more than 20 venues across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, including Zayed Sports City, Hudayriyat Island, and the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub.

In the early days of competition, athletics marked its debut within the Games programme, drawing strong participation across age categories. One of the widely reported moments was the performance of 91-year-old Mongolian athlete Radnaa Tseren, who secured gold in the 200m and silver in the 100m, reflecting the inclusive nature of the event. Medal tallies have also featured strong international representation, with Belarusian athletes securing five gold medals, Iran’s Muaythai team earning 12 medals, and competitors from Kyrgyzstan claiming podium finishes in judo and archery. Overseas Filipino Workers also won gold and bronze in table tennis men’s doubles.

Competitions in swimming, triathlon and road cycling have taken place at Hudayriyat Island, while indoor sports including basketball, volleyball, squash and ice hockey have been hosted at Zayed Sports City and other venues across Abu Dhabi. Traditional and heritage sports have also featured during the programme, adding a local dimension to the international schedule.

The Open Masters Games are open to adults aged 30 and above, with some sports allowing younger participants. The programme also includes heritage sports such as camel racing, falconry, traditional dhow sailing, and endurance horse racing, reflecting elements of Emirati culture.

The ongoing event highlights how sport supports cultural exchange and reinforces Abu Dhabi’s role as a host for international sporting events.
