The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced the international showcase of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi at Sphere in Las Vegas, offering audiences worldwide a glimpse into the immersive art experience that has recently opened in the Saadiyat Cultural District. The activation reflects the collaboration between DCT Abu Dhabi, Sphere Entertainment Co., and teamLab Inc., highlighting Abu Dhabi’s commitment to cultural innovation and creativity.
teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is a 17,000-square-metre multi-sensory venue designed by Tokyo-based art collective teamLab in partnership with DCT Abu Dhabi and Miral, operated by Miral Experiences. Conceived by teamLab Architects alongside Abu Dhabi-based MZ Architects, the purpose-built space presents artworks that continuously evolve, shaped by their environment and visitor interaction. Among its installations are Massless Suns and Dark Suns, where light and darkness form unique phenomena, and Levitation Void, a levitating structure sustained by its surroundings.
The venue officially opened to the public on 18 April 2025, following an inauguration ceremony on 17 April attended by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed. The launch featured a live performance by Italian pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi and a drone display of 6,000 lights, underscoring Abu Dhabi’s ambition to blend cultural experiences with artistic innovation.
H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, noted that teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi reinforces the emirate’s role as a global centre for arts, culture, and innovation while contributing to the growing significance of Saadiyat Cultural District as a cultural landmark.
With Abu Dhabi set to host the second Sphere, the partnership with Sphere Entertainment Co. and teamLab represents the beginning of a new chapter in immersive cultural experiences and underlines DCT Abu Dhabi’s vision to bring transformative projects to global audiences.
