Dubai has announced plans to build Therme Dubai, a Dhs2 billion wellbeing resort set to be the world’s tallest. The project will be located in Zabeel Park and is expected to open in 2028.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed shared the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Therme Dubai will be “an iconic addition to Dubai’s skyline.” The development will cover 500,000 square feet, rise to a height of 100 metres, and is projected to welcome 1.7 million visitors annually.
A Wellbeing-Focused Design
The resort will include three main areas:
- Restore: A thermal complex with saunas, steam rooms, and mineral treatment baths.
- Relax: An adults-only section with indoor and outdoor pools, mineral pools, and wellness treatments.
- Play: A family-friendly space featuring a 15-slide water play area, interactive installations, and activity zones.
Additional features include a 4,500-square-metre indoor and terrace pool, three 18-metre waterfalls, and the world’s largest indoor botanical garden.
Sustainability and Wellness Traditions
Therme Dubai will incorporate elements from global wellness traditions, including Roman and Turkish baths, Japanese hot springs, Turkish hammams, and Nordic saunas.
The project will also focus on sustainability, with plans to:
– Recycle 90% of the water used in thermal pools.
– Source 80% of cooling and fresh air needs from clean energy.
– Support urban biodiversity and environmental initiatives.
Part of Dubai’s Quality of Life Strategy 2033
The development is part of Dubai’s Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which includes:
- 200+ new parks
- 300% expansion of cycling tracks on beaches
- 1,000+ annual events
Therme Dubai is being developed by Therme Group, which operates wellness resorts in Bucharest (Romania), Thermen & Badewelt Sinsheim (Germany), and Badeparadies Schwarzwald Titisee (Germany). Additional projects are planned for Glasgow (Scotland), Manchester (England), and Ontario (Canada).
“This project supports Dubai’s goal of improving quality of life while promoting sustainability and wellbeing,” said Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed.
