Dubai Culture Launches International Art Fairs Grant to Support Local Galleries and Artists

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has launched the International Art Fairs Grant, a new initiative providing financial support to Dubai-based galleries at art fairs abroad. This initiative, part of the Dubai Cultural Grant, aims to support Emirati artists by helping them showcase their work to wider audiences and enhancing their international presence. It also seeks to contribute to the development of cultural and creative industries and establish Dubai as a center for the creative economy.

Managed by Art Dubai Group, the initiative highlights the government’s efforts to promote the local art scene globally and provide artists with new opportunities.

Dubai Culture’s investment in the city’s arts ecosystem through this grant emphasizes Dubai’s role as a regional hub for art. The grant aims to support emerging and established UAE-based and Emirati artists while encouraging galleries and artists to establish a lasting presence in Dubai. This initiative contributes to the growth of the creative economy, creating benefits across related sectors and fostering a sustainable framework for the arts community in Dubai.

Galleries with a full-time presence in Dubai, representing either Emirati artists or artists who have been based in the UAE for at least three years, and hosting programs outside the gallery space in reputable institutions or art fairs, are eligible to apply. The grant can cover up to 50% of the cost of a booth at an international art fair, based on the percentage of the booth dedicated to Emirati artists or long-term UAE residents.

Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, emphasized the importance of the grant in strengthening Dubai’s local art sector: “Dubai’s position as a global art hub is largely attributed to its thriving art scene, which is centred around the city’s art galleries. It is home to a unique artists’ heritage, and through this grant, we hope to elevate the profiles of our celebrated galleries and artists on an international platform while contributing to the global discourse on contemporary art, highlighting Dubai’s dynamic cultural voice. The further participation in renowned art fairs worldwide will create new opportunities for cultural exchange, collaboration, and promote Dubai as a leading centre for artistic excellence.”

William Lawrie of Lawrie Shabibi gallery, representing leading artists, noted: “This grant is an important step for Dubai’s art community. By supporting our participation in major art fairs, Dubai Culture helps us expand our reach, showcase our artists, and contribute to the city’s growing cultural landscape.”

This initiative reflects a collaborative effort to support Dubai’s art community, fostering a dynamic environment for creativity and innovation while reinforcing the city’s position in the global art world.
