The Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) 2026 organised by the Emirates Falconers’ Club, will give visitors the opportunity to learn and practise traditional archery as part of its focus on preserving and promoting hunting and equestrian heritage.
Now in its 23rd edition, ADIHEX will present archery as both a historical skill and a contemporary sporting and cultural practice. Visitors, particularly young people, will be able to participate in hands-on archery activities under the guidance of specialists, learning the correct stance, drawing the bowstring and aiming at targets.
Historically, archery played an important role in hunting, defence and horsemanship. Over time, its use evolved from a practical skill into a sport and cultural practice, with traditional archery, Arab archery and horseback archery continuing through competitions and heritage programmes.
The archery experience at ADIHEX will also introduce visitors to the physical and mental skills involved in the practice. Target archery requires concentration, controlled breathing, balance and precision, while horseback archery combines these skills with speed, horse control and coordination.
The exhibition will also highlight traditional equipment associated with hunting and equestrian practices, including armour, warrior attire, swords, bows, arrows, quivers and traditional hammers. Many of these items are based on historical designs and provide an opportunity to understand the craftsmanship, materials and functions associated with traditional hunting and equestrian systems.
By allowing visitors to engage directly with traditional archery, ADIHEX aims to support the transmission of knowledge and skills between generations. The approach reflects the exhibition’s focus on keeping cultural heritage connected to contemporary community life rather than limiting it to display and documentation.
Through its archery activities and related displays, ADIHEX 2026 will explore the history of the bow and its continued relevance as part of Arab and Islamic heritage. The programme supports the exhibition’s theme, “A Legacy of Pride,” by presenting heritage as something that can be learned, practised and passed on to future generations.
