Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS 2025) Concludes in Abu Dhabi with a Focus on Global Collaboration

The Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS 2025) concluded this week in Abu Dhabi, highlighting the need for coordinated global efforts to govern rapidly advancing technologies. Organized by the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) in strategic partnership with the UAE Public Prosecution, the summit brought together policymakers, legal professionals, technologists, academics, and youth leaders from over 20 countries.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, the two-day event provided a platform for discussions on law, innovation, and public policy. With more than 70 speakers, topics included AI regulation, data governance, synthetic content, digital identity, quantum security, and the role of autonomous systems.

A key focus was on building governance frameworks that are inclusive, adaptable, and based on legal accountability. The UAE Public Prosecution played a central role in shaping these discussions, emphasizing the importance of legal systems in supporting responsible technological progress.

HE Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai, Advisor to the UAE President and Secretary General of ATRC, noted that GETS 2025 reflects the UAE’s commitment to both technological leadership and responsible governance. “We are proud to have hosted a diverse set of voices and helped shape meaningful conversations that will influence policy decisions moving forward,” he said.

A major announcement at the summit was the launch of the UAE Public Prosecution’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030. This initiative aims to integrate AI into the judicial system to improve efficiency, accessibility, and foresight, while maintaining ethical and legal standards.

HE Chancellor Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, Attorney General of the UAE, stated: “This strategy outlines our approach to using AI in the service of justice. It is based on principles of transparency, ethics, and effectiveness. The summit also reinforced the need for ongoing international dialogue and shared governance frameworks.”

The summit also marked the signing of two cooperation agreements: one between TRENDS Research & Advisory and ExHub, and another between the UAE Public Prosecution and the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), highlighting continued investment in research and education.

Speakers included HE Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for AI; HE Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education; HE Maryam Al Hammadi, Secretary General of the UAE Cabinet; Changpeng Zhao, Founder of Binance; and Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of the Technology Innovation Institute. Youth councils also contributed to discussions, especially around AI education and policymaking.

GETS 2025 was supported by a range of national and international partners, including the Technology Innovation Institute, ASPIRE, UAE Space Agency, Cybersecurity Council, MBZUAI, and companies such as Microsoft, Cisco, PwC, and Honeywell. Their involvement reinforced the importance of cross-sector collaboration in shaping the future of technology governance.

The summit concluded with a clear consensus: the governance of emerging technologies requires immediate and coordinated action. The groundwork laid at GETS 2025 aims to support ongoing cooperation among governments, institutions, and industries as they navigate an evolving digital landscape.Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS 2025) Concludes in Abu Dhabi with a Focus on Global Collaboration
