Kuwait Tightens Airport Checks: Travellers Must Report Cash, Gold, and Luxury Items Over KWD 3,000

The General Administration of Customs urges all travellers to adhere to the updated procedures to ensure smooth processing and avoid penalties.

Travellers entering or departing Kuwait via Kuwait International Airport are now required to declare any valuables, including cash, gold, or luxury items valued over KWD 3,000 (approximately USD 9,820). The General Administration of Customs has introduced this measure to curb smuggling and illegal financial activity.

The policy applies to all travellers—Kuwaitis, expatriates, and visitors. Items such as cash, checks, financial instruments, gold bars, collectible coins, jewellery, luxury watches, designer goods, and high-end electronics fall under the mandate. Travellers must declare these items before clearing customs, whether on arrival or departure.

Proof of ownership, such as original receipts, invoices, or relevant documentation, must be provided if requested. These items should be packed in hand luggage for inspection. Failure to comply with the regulation may result in confiscation of undeclared items, detention, or further legal action.
