Oman to Develop Tourism Zone in Duqm to Enhance Local Economy and Tourism

The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPA) has announced the invitation of limited bids for consultancy services to create a detailed master plan for a new Touristic Coastal Zone in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD). The goal is to develop the area into a destination for tourism, leisure, and recreation, offering both natural beauty and modern facilities.

The planned Touristic Coastal Zone will feature various land uses, including resorts, hospitality buildings, private chalets, mixed-use developments, commercial spaces, recreational areas, and a beachfront promenade. The development is intended to cater to both tourists and residents, providing a balance of relaxation, activities, and amenities.

Duqm, located in the Al Wusta governorate, is situated along the Arabian Sea, midway between Muscat and Salalah. Known for its marine activities, wildlife, and desert camping, Duqm has the potential to attract a variety of visitors.

The Rock Garden, one of Duqm’s notable tourist attractions, will continue to draw interest. This geological site covers about 6 square kilometers and is known for its unique sandstone and limestone formations, shaped by natural processes over millions of years. The site offers a glimpse into Oman’s geological history and remains an important part of Duqm’s tourism offerings.

The development of the Touristic Coastal Zone aims to support the local economy and provide sustainable tourism options. OPA’s invitation to consultancies marks the first step in moving forward with the project.
