Domestic tourism in Oman recorded growth in 2025, with 15.8 million domestic tourists visiting destinations across the country, up 16.2% from 13.6 million in 2024 and 12.9 million in 2023, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Domestic tourists recorded 4.7 million nights across Oman in 2025, while tourism expenditure increased to RO980 million, compared with RO834 million in 2024.
Entertainment and recreation was the leading purpose of domestic travel, accounting for 46.8% of domestic tourists, according to NCSI data. Visiting family and friends was the second-largest purpose, accounting for 26% of domestic travel.
Oman’s hospitality sector comprised 1,063 hotels in 2025. The sector generated RO359 million in revenue, compared with RO293.4 million in 2024. The average hotel occupancy rate stood at 44.2%.
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), Oman’s travel and tourism sector is projected to grow at more than twice the pace of the overall economy over the next decade. Its contribution to Oman’s economy is forecast to increase from RO3 billion in 2025 to RO4.6 billion by 2036.
WTTC forecasts international visitor spending in Oman to reach RO2.5 billion by 2036, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.2% between 2026 and 2036.
Domestic visitor spending is projected to reach RO1.5 billion by 2036, with a CAGR of 1.6% over the same period.
In 2025, international visitors accounted for 53.8% of total visitor spending in Oman, while domestic visitors accounted for 46.2%.
