The world-renowned opera Carmen will be performed in Saudi Arabia for the first time this September. The production will be staged at the King Fahad Cultural Centre in Riyadh from September 4 to 6, 2025.

Composed by Georges Bizet and first premiered in France in 1875, Carmen is widely regarded as one of the most significant works in the operatic repertoire. The Riyadh performances will be presented by the China National Opera House.

The staging is part of the official 2025 Saudi-China cultural year and coincides with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and China. This year also marks the 150th anniversary of the debut of Carmen.

The opera tells the story of Carmen, a woman in Spain who values her independence and freedom, and her tumultuous relationship with Don José. The performance is known for its memorable music and dramatic themes.
