Cairo recently hosted a focused gathering aimed at strengthening Egypt’s role in the AI landscape—not just as a user, but as a contributor to its development.
The “People of Data – Sharks Edition” convened technology professionals, AI specialists, and investors to outline practical steps for integrating artificial intelligence into Egypt’s economy. Organized by the People of Data community, the event addressed how applied AI can support economic growth over the next 18 months, moving beyond theory to implementation.
Discussions were grounded in operational scale, with participants representing data ecosystems that collectively serve more than 50 million users in Egypt. This context helped frame how AI can influence market dynamics, business operations, and public-facing services.
The dialogue focused on three areas. The first was the workplace, examining AI as a functional support system within organisations and its implications for workforce structures. The second addressed corporate responsibility, emphasising the role of private sector leadership in adopting and scaling AI solutions. The third explored global competitiveness, outlining what Egyptian institutions need to participate more actively in international innovation.
The initiative is led by People of Data co-founders Youssef Kamal and Magdi Moussa, along with Reem El Tayeb, who focuses on advancing female participation in the technology sector. Investors Mohamed Farouk and Ahmed Tarek contributed perspectives on near-term investment opportunities linked to AI adoption.
Organisers described the event as part of a broader effort to develop a structured data and AI community in Egypt. The People of Data platform aims to connect technology practitioners, businesses, and investors, supporting collaboration and the gradual development of a knowledge-based economy.
