The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, designed by Foster + Partners, will offer visitors an opportunity to explore the country’s cultural heritage and modern advancements. Located on the Yumeshima waterfront, the pavilion will provide a thoughtfully designed experience focusing on tradition, innovation, and sustainability.
The pavilion’s design takes inspiration from traditional Saudi villages, incorporating sustainable practices and modern architectural techniques. The structure uses computational fluid dynamics simulations to maximize natural cooling during warmer months and shield against cooler winds, ensuring an energy-efficient design suited to the environment.
Visitors will enter through a landscaped forecourt featuring native Saudi plants. The centerpiece of the pavilion, the Saudi Courtyard, serves as a space for daytime reflection and evening performances. Surrounding streets will host exhibits developed in collaboration with 59 Productions and Squint/Opera, presenting the Kingdom’s history, current initiatives, and future aspirations.
The pavilion emphasizes sustainable construction, incorporating low-carbon materials, rainwater recycling systems, and energy-efficient lighting. Integrated photovoltaic panels will generate power, while its design aligns with Net Zero Operational Carbon targets. The project also follows WELL design principles to enhance the comfort and well-being of visitors and staff.
